Who is Natrix?

Natrix is the artist name of Nathalia Roca, a Venezuelan-born illustrator and painter based in Chicago. Working across traditional and digital mediums, Natrix captures faith-based themes through illustration that combines realistic depiction with creative storytelling. With a B.A.

in Illustration from Columbia College Chicago and a professional background in graphic design, her work is shaped by a thoughtful approach to storytelling, composition, and design.

Blending classical influences with contemporary technique, Natrix creates painterly, narrative-driven art that invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and connect with something larger than themselves.

Her work has been featured in exhibitions at Columbia College Chicago, the Italian Cultural Institute

of Chicago, SOBA, and the Public Works Art Center in

South Carolina.

While illustration remains her primary focus, Natrix also enjoys taking on mural projects, bringing her eye for narrative and detail into larger-scale public spaces.

Why Natrix?

The name Natrix traces back to a quiet moment in childhood, a small but lasting memory. During those early years of exploring art, before anything felt official or certain, a cousin who often gave out playful nicknames randomly called out, “Natrix.” It stuck. There was no deep meaning then, just the warmth of being seen, named, and known in a creative light.

As the art journey deepened and faith became central, Natrix began to feel like more than a nickname. It carried a sense of purpose, a feeling of being set apart. It became a name for someone becoming, someone learning to create with intention, not just for self- expression, but to reflect something greater.

Though I hold the name Nathalia close, Natrix is the name I create under. It holds the tension between who I am and who I’m becoming, a quiet reminder that the work isn’t mine alone. It points beyond me, reflecting a desire to glorify the Creator, not the creation.
